BERLINO

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Recently in Germany’s capital Berlin, a city rich in culture and tipped to become the new art capital. I couldn’t help but search to see if there were any glass studios.

In their words:

Berlin Glas e.V.

COMING SOON 2011

Founded in August 2009, Berlin Glas, e.V. is a not-for-profit association that aims to give international professional artists and students the opportunity to work with hot glass in Berlin.

In Germany, those interested in working with glass can only do so at a very limited number of schools or rent space in factories. Berlin Glass, e.V. plans to offer a dynamic and modernized studio to a wide range of artists, students and eventually the general public at an affordable price. The atelier will offer a full hot glass studio, kiln casting, fusing, slumping and cold-working. As Berlin is becoming the centre for a contemporary art, a hot glass studio will provide an exchange between artists working with glass and the abundance of talents that are already in practice in the city.

Please stay tuned as Berlin Glas, e.V. gets under way and we develop the website!

To celebrate 2012 hits on aaronglassdj YouTube featuring glass video’s of London based glass makers:
Adam Aaronson, Eddie King, Renaato of Adam Aaronson’ s Aaronson Noon Studio
Layne Rowe of Peter Layton’ s London Glassblowing
Stuart Hearn of London Glassworks

Here is a link to a film I was involved with in January of this year with Matt Fleming and Matt Jobling filmed on location at Sunderland’ s National Glass Centre on Vimeo.

Huge thanks to all the makers for being generous and calm enough to let me hang around and film them making glass.

Expect more footage from further afield.

Recently shocked to discover the existence of a working furnace within a few miles of my house! I had a walk over to say hello. Michael had just finished charging this egg shaped Danish furnace in his South East London Studio.
